Busan is the second largest city in Korea with a population of 3.6 million people. The Busan entered the city of "aged society" for the first time because of rapid growth of aging. In 2015, the proportion of population over the age of 65 years rose 14%, which meant the most aged community in Korea. Busan is expected to become a post-aged society, the aged proportion of the population passing over 20% in 2022, when it will be four years earlier than the national average. The baby boomers constitute 16.4% among the total population of Busan. Therefore we have to review the anticipated issues related to the baby boomers who are connected to the elderly.

It is necessary for us to develop the environment of entire city as being an age-friendly mannered so that all citizens, not just the elderly, can benefit.

The action plan, scheduled for implementation from 2016 to 2018, 59 projects in 8 action areas, which includes encompassing both elderly welfare and areas that directly impact aged living, inclusive of transportation and living facilities. The plan is focused on the balancing social and physical environments. It is expected that the level of aging will increase as the baby boomers enter an age of retirement. It is important to be recognized The Age-Friendly City as a livable city to live in. The Age-Friendly City can guarantee all citizens including the elderly a high standard of living if we prepare for it well. To carry out the plan feasibly, the related departments should collaborate each other with understanding their goal and the necessity of constructing an Age-Friendly City.

Since 2016, Busan 'Super Seniors Summit' (Policy Monitoring Group), which is a committee consisting of only the elderly will be operated in order to increase the older people's participating in policy decision making.
